Information and Education
Senior Speaker Series

SSA works to ensure that each Senior Speaker Series program has local experts on the topic and provides the most up-to-date, accurate information. Each program is created collaboratively in partnership with City agencies and non-profits who are also invited to set up tables to share their information. For more information about individual Speaker Series programs click here.

SSA invites several local non-profits to co-sponsor these programs including: ACT for Alexandria; AHA!; Alexandria Library; Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities; Inova Alexandria Hospital; and Volunteer Alexandria.

Speaker Series Sponsors: Susan and Carl Behnke.

Senior Law Day

The Alexandria Bar Association and Senior Services co-present Senior Law Day as part of the Senior Speaker Series each Fall to inform the Alexandria community about legal issues related to planning for aging.

Senior Living in Alexandria

SSA produces a monthly cable television show, Senior Living in Alexandria, with assistance and training by Arlington Independent Media. Each show highlights and expands on the information shared at the most recent Speaker Series and includes special features such as cooking demonstrations and exercise tips.

Senior Living in Alexandria is broadcast on Comcast cable channel 70 Sundays at 2 pm in Alexandria and Thursdays at 4:30pm, Saturdays at 6:30pm, and Sundays at 1:30pm on channel 69 in Arlington, and is also available on our website and on our YouTube Channel.

Senior Living in Alexandria Sponsor: Speck-Caudron Investment Group

Senior Academy

SSA, in partnership with the City of Alexandria’s Office of Public Affairs, holds two sessions of a 4-week course for seniors who reside in the city of Alexandria.  Participants hear from city officials on what programs and services are available to seniors and how they can become involved and engaged in their communities.

Senior Information Corners

Senior Information Corners are stocked by volunteers with current literature for seniors at 14 locations, including City libraries, the major recreation centers, continuing care facilities, and residential senior communities.
