In the beginning of January, the food supplier for SSA’s Meals on Wheels program, Jeffery’s Catering, was affected by a large fire on Wheeler Avenue. Despite the challenges and rapidly changing circumstances, SSA felt the support of the community as many rallied around Meals on Wheels to ensure that older adults in Alexandria remained fed and secure. SSA’s valued partner, Goodwin Living, stepped up to provide meals for Meals on Wheels clients from The View Alexandria for several weeks while Jeffrey’s Catering was securing a new location. Alexandria’s Recreation Department coordinated a new pick-up location at Chinquapin Center where volunteers are now picking up hot and cold meals daily. During some snowy weather, the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office braved the weather to deliver meals. In times like these we are reminded of how deep our community connections run, and we could not be more grateful!
