AARP & Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Roundtable on the Solutions to Support Family Caregivers’ Growing Needs, Monday, May 20, 2024, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Virginia Hospital Center

AARP will host a roundtable discussion with CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure to highlight recent steps CMS has taken to recognize and support family caregivers, including a new CMS regulation that will allow Medicare to pay doctors, nurse practitioners, and other health care providers solely to train family caregivers.

Senior Services of Alexandria’s Health and Fitness Fair – Thursday, May 23 at 10 am at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria

The Successful Aging Committee is sponsoring the annual Senior Health & Fitness Fair on Thursday, May 23 from 10am-noon. This year’s fair will be a fun and interactive program featuring a presentation by the Inova Community Health Team, blood pressure and glaucoma screenings, a healthy cooking demonstration by the chef from The View Alexandria, chair yoga, and exercise with RPCA’s Rodney! The event will be held at the Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Alexandria. Light refreshments will be provided and the event is free, but please register by emailing events@seniorservicesalex.org or call 703-836-4414, ext. 110.

Senior Law Day – Saturday, June 8

Save the date for the 12th annual Senior Law Day on Saturday, June 8 from 8:30am-12:30pm. The theme will be “Protecting Ourselves as We Age: Essential Personal and Financial Strategies”. Join SSA and the Alexandria Bar Association for this free and informative seminar to make sure you are protected from scams and learn about strategies for aging well in Alexandria. The free event will be held at the First Baptist Church, 2932 King Street in Alexandria.
