Inside the Vault at the National Archives The Emancipation Proclamation

The original Emancipation Proclamation signed by President Abraham Lincoln is in the holdings of the National Archives. To protect the document from light damage It is publicly displayed only a few days each year under extremely low light. In this video from the National Archives, senior archivist Reginald Washington and senior conservator Terry Boone discuss the document’s significance, its history and measures taken to preserve it.

Strategies for Addressing Solo Aging, Social Isolation and Mental Health for Seniors, Wednesday, February 19, 1:00 pm –

Senior Services of Alexandria and At Home in Alexandria (AHA) are bringing together experts to explore strategies for supporting older adults as they navigate solo aging, combatting social isolation and learn how to prioritize one’s mental health as we age. Speakers include Steve Gurney with the Positive Aging Community, and Rhonda Williams, Director of the city’s Older Adult Mental Health Department.
