The Alexandria Library Foundation Author Event and Reception – 6:00-8:30 p.m. on September 21st, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 228 South Pitt Street in Alexandria. 

Local author Taylor Baldwin Kiland, and her co-author, Judy Silverstein Gray, have published a new book, Unwavering: The Wives Who Fought to Ensure No Man is Left Behind. It tells the story of military wives who waged an unprecedented home-front battle, speaking out after years of waiting patiently. Special guests include POW wives Andrea Rander and Emilee Reynolds, and the longest-held U.S. POW in North Vietnam, The Hon. Everett Alvarez, Jr. Senator Mark Warner will serve as the Honorary Chair and Councilman John Taylor Chapman will emcee the event.

Senior Services of Alexandria’s “Senior Living in Alexandria” event – Thursday, October 19 at 10 am – Westminster Presbyterian Church – 2701 Cameron Mills Road

This is the first speaker series event of the 2023-24 season and will be focused on Senior Safety and Awareness. Local experts will discuss a variety of topics geared to keeping you safe inside and outside of your home including: Fall prevention; Ideas on how to keep your home safe by removing tripping hazards and other minor fixes; Stroke prevention measures; and the Importance of knowing how various prescriptions interact. The event is free and open to the public.
