There will be a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training that will take place on Saturday, December 2nd, at 4480 King Street in Alexandria. Led by Rhonda Williams, who the Supervising Therapist for the Community Services Board’s (CSB) Older Adult Clinical Unit, and Kim Burson, who is the CSB’s Substance Abuse Outpatient Team Leader, this training will focus on helping older adults.
Although many people have taken First Aid courses in the past, MHFA is a little bit different. This training and certification teaches teach community members how to help someone who is experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis. It covers risk factors, warning signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use disorders, the effects of the illnesses, an overview of treatments, and a five-step action plan for helping.
