Featured in this week’s Alexandria Gazette Packet are three articles with information about the upcoming Senior Law Day, as well as a few of SSA’s programs.

“Planning for One’s Future”

Gretchyn Meinken, esq. of Wade, Grimes, Friedman, Meinken & Leischner, PLLC, writes about the upcoming Senior Law Day, which is sponsored by SSA and the Alexandria Bar Association. This year’s focus will be on “Aging in Alexandria: Planning for Life Transitions.” Panels featuring local experts will address a number of relevant topics, including estate planning, caregiver agreements, financial considerations, transition support services, and senior residential living options. Learn more on page 11.

“Join Friendly Visitor Program”

SSA’s Mary Giordano, the Director of the Friendly Visitor Program, relays stories from some of our volunteer-senior pairs. Mrs. V, who meets with a volunteer named Megan, was one of the first women in the county to work on scientific computers. She received a Master’s Degree in mathematics in the 1940’s, so Megan brought a copy of Hidden Figures for them to watch together. For more stories and information on how to get involved, see page 11.

“Delivering Meals and Friendship”

SSA serves hundreds of seniors throughout the City of Alexandria through its Groceries to Go, Friendly Visitor, and Meals on Wheels Programs. We couldn’t do any of it without the help of our incredible volunteers. Check out page 26  to see some of them in action!
