The National Gallery of Art has introduced several new programs that make its tours more accessible for those with impaired vision, dementia, and who speak ASL.
Just Us at the National Gallery of Art
This program will provide interactive, discussion-based experiences in the galleries for people with early-stage dementia and their caregivers. Participants will explore two to three works of art during the 90-minute program. The initial sessions (a four-month pilot) will be held the first and third Mondays of the month from May to July from 2:00-3:30 each day. Picture This!
Tours for People with Low Vision and Who Are Blind at the National Gallery of Art incorporate vibrant verbal description with information about works of art. July tours will take place on Saturday, July 22 and Wednesday, July 26 the West Building. Have fun with People Behaving Badly! July tours meet at 1:00 in the Rotunda of the West Building (use the 6th St. NW entrance for easiest access) and last about an hour. ASL at the NGA: An Introduction to the National Gallery Collection
The monthly ASL at the NGA tour is coming up on Saturday, July 8 at 1:00 pm in the West Building! The free tour meets in the Rotunda of the West Building and lasts about an hour.
ASL Family Tours
The new monthly ASL Family Tour is designed for families with children ages 5-11, and will take place on Saturday, July 1 in the West Building at 11:00 am. The free tour meets in the Rotunda of the West Building and lasts about an hour.
ASL Video Tour of the East Building Highlights
In addition to the Director’s Tour of West Building highlights, we also feature 36 ASL videos with highlights of the newly reopened East Building! The tour can be viewed on personal devices, both on- and offsite here.
